What’s unique?
Space may be a space game, but it has a very unique game play. It’s probably the only game I have ever seen, that leaves players disoriented for a little while –
.
However, Players learned, within 15 minutes, to pilot the vehicles with great ease!
Space provides F3D and used a 9PKS – (Nine Plus Key System (Yes, I am coining these as go along…)).
there are nine main controls, and a few modifier keys. Wasd is used to rotate your ship, like in a plane, and arrow keys are used to move left, right, forwards, and backwards. While holding ship, wasd can rotate your ship like in a car, and also move you up and down.
The space key is used to shoot, and depending upon if you hold shift, or control, the type of weapon can be one of up to four (space = 1 – space + shift = 2 – space + control = three – space + shift + option = 4).
Now, unless I’m mistaken, I don’t think that any game in history has used that control system – and it works fine for my small hands.
Not only does Space integrate a brand new control system – but it’s game play is also new! I’ve heard about other space games that introduce F3D (Well – seen videos) – but these could just be animations – no? Most space games are mouse-controlled 2D games.
Now, such 2D space games may be fun, but Space is the next level. Some space games, such as star treck the video game, do offer 3D graphics, but still use a semi-2D playing field. (In star treck, you could choose to be on three levels – below, normal, and above).
Such games just don’t satisfy me… Finally, most, if not all other games only give you a limited playing field. Space gives you a fully infinite playing field – though at larger distances from systems, you will likely face glitches. (I was in the editor moving a sun, when it suddenly faded away (The body of the sun disappeared – leaving the particles alone, but they slowly died away)).
As far as my knowledge will take me, no other space game provides planet motion, atmosphere layers, bump mapped planet textures, and moons – all in one.
That is the basic gameplay of space it’s self – but there is more… Space not only combines fascinating PS2-like graphics (with low lag (My computer being slow, and yet getting 60 FPS)) and well designed controls, with rarely seen F3D gameplay, but it also includes an RPG style GALU (GAin, Loss and Upgrade) system – and a very unique networking system.
Finally, in combination with RPG, Great graphics, and rare gameplay, Space finally integrates mdes of gameplay – such as:
- Dogfights
- Quarry – Try to be the quarry as long as possible.
- AntiQuarry – Try not to be the quarry for as long as possible.
- Shoot’emall – Shoot everyone as much as you possibly can.
- Rammer (AKA RamBam) – Hit (Or come close to hitting) other ships, and become quarry.
- TeamLife – Destroy as many players on the opposite team as you can.
- Flag Games
- Capture the flag – Bring the flag back to base.
- Keep the flag - Hold the flag as long as possible (Similar to Quarry).
- Gather the flags – The first person to gather all flags in the area wins.
- Etcetera – Other games
- Ball Games
- Soccer – Push the giant ball into someone else’s goal.
- Bump – Touch the ball for as l0ng as possible.
- Keeper – Keep the ball in your goal – the team with their ball in the goal the longest wins.
- Tactical Games
- Base control – Take over all enemy bases.
- Inverse TeamLife – Do as much damage to your team as possible.
- Misc
- Racing
- CopyCat – Mimic a player’s moves as much as possible.
- Player Suggested games as well.
Overall, Space provides extremely unique gameplay – I don’t think that any other game combines this many features, of this many types into one.
Likewise – Space is the first game of it’s kind.
